Group Leader Facilities (Campus)

2201810

**PROPERTY SERVICES DIVISION**
**FACILITIES (CAMPUS)**

**_Mō te tīma / About our Team_**

When staff, students, and the public step onto our campuses, they experience a range of learning and research environments, including classrooms, world leading laboratories and libraries. They admire the historic Clocktower Building, enjoy our extensive art collection, stroll the grounds, and buy refreshments.

The dedicated efforts of Property Services Division employees shape these experiences. We're the physical foundation of the teaching, research, learning and social interaction that takes place at the University, and we're proud of the important role we play.

The Division is responsible for buildings with a replacement cost of NZ$2.5 billion, and more than 22,000 hectares of land. With over 3,500 University Staff and 20,000 students, it's a bit like helping to run a small town.

**_The Role / Te mahi_**

As a result of an internal promotion, the University of Otago’s Property Services Division has an exciting opportunity for an astute property professional to join their team as Group Leader Facilities (Campus).

As well as having your own Portfolio of Facilities, the primary purpose of this role is to:

- Lead a team that delivers and coordinates facilities and property management services to a diverse range of client portfolios.
- Proactively partner with internal customers to understand their current requirements and emerging business needs.
- Ensure effective and efficient oversight of facilities, buildings, and utilities by your team, including the planning of maintenance, upgrades and adaptions which serve to provide safe, compliant, and effective environments for student life, teaching, research, administrative and commercial activities.
- Ensure staff are deployed astutely to provide optimal delivery of services. Balance the workload between support, operational and project-related activities.
- Champion the Project Assessment process to identify potential projects for inclusion in our Project Pipeline and act as Project Owner to ensure their successful delivery.
- Identify and deliver innovative and future focused facilities management solutions and services which are aligned with strategy, and continually improve the commercial performance of client portfolios.

Good attention to detail coupled with a strong client-focused, service excellence mindset is critical to success in this role.

**_Your skills and experience / Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**

The successful applicant will ideally have an appropriate Building, Operations, Facilities Management or Building Services Qualification, and/or experience (direct or transferable) in Operations, Project, Construction or Facilities Management with a strong leadership and client focus, as well as:

- Experience (directly or indirectly) leading diverse teams.
- Be process driven.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)/confidence communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A high degree of computer literacy.
- Knowledge of building construction and costs.
- An understanding of the Building Act and the Health and Safety Act.
