About the Role:
As a Health Care Assistant, you will provide daily support and care to aged care residents under the supervision of a registered nurse. With access to tools and right facilities, you'll be empowered to deliver exceptional care in a supportive and professional environment.
- This is a full-time, permanent position.
- The hours of work is 32 to 40 hours per week.
- The hourly pay rate ranges from $23.50 to $28.25, depending on skills and qualifications, and is aligned with the Government's Pay Equity and Qualification Equivalencies for Care and Support Workers.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Safely, efficiently and effectively deliver care by prioritising and attending to Resident's needs (such as, but not limited to, showering, dressing, grooming, mobility support, eating/feeding, medicating and toileting) and according to duty schedules and the Nursing Procedure Manual. This includes requesting assistance in difficult care delivery situations.
- From time to time, safely transport and/or escort residents to external appointments (e.g., hospital, GP, specialist clinics, events), ensuring timely arrival and return in accordance with the scheduled time.
- Provide input and participate in the planning and delivery of care for the residents, taking into account individual needs and preferences.
- Comply with the relevant policies related to punctuality, correct maintenance of time records, sick call procedure, professional appearance and conduct, smoking policy and all House Rules.
- Support and uphold all policies, mission statement and philosophies at all times.
- As maybe required, the healthcare assistant is to do laundry and perform cleaning and kitchen duties in a helpful manner while maintaining good infection control principles.
- To observe privacy & confidentiality of clients and facility business.
- To be an effective team worker with consideration for other employees. It is required that records of reports are current, informative rather than merely gratuitous. The caregiver is to be flexible, show initiative and be tolerant and understanding when duties are busy. To be readily adaptable to change.
- To be a good communicator with residents and staff. This includes appropriate upward reporting, sharing relevant information with colleagues and maintaining a good working relationship with management. A positive contribution to staff meetings is required.
- To follow sound basic hygiene principles particularly in relation to hand washing.
- To develop professionally, complete training and on-going education as per legislation. This includes attendance of a minimum of three (3) education sessions yearly, one of which must be Fire and Safety.
- To perform other duties as may be reasonably required to maximise the resident's safety and sense of wellbeing.
- To participate in annual performance appraisals.
- To perform other relevant duties as may be requested from time to time.
- Availability to work AM, PM, nocte, or night shifts on a rotating roster, including weekends.
About You:
We're looking for individuals who bring:
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience in aged care, disability support, or a relevant healthcare setting, or a healthcare qualification equivalent to Level 4 on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF). Demonstrated cultural competency may be required.
- Commitment to helping residents in a continuing care environment.
- A caring, considerate attitude and responsiveness to the care of the Elderly.
- Good organisation and prioritising skills.
- Honesty, integrity, conscientiousness and industriousness.
- Awareness of ways to optimise independence of residents.
- Understanding of Residents rights, Advocacy and privacy.
- A full driver's licence (advantageous but not required).
- Must be available for various shifts, with flexibility on a rotating roster.
- Basic computer proficiency, as we use electronic medication management, resident care systems, HR platforms, and scheduling tools.
- A strong command of English and excellent communication skills.
- Good physical and mental fitness, with the ability to pass a drug test and police check.
- A positive, adaptable mindset and willingness to embrace change.
- Professionalism, personability, and a high standard of hygiene.
