At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand's security and wellbeing. **About the role**
We have an exciting opportunity for technical practitioners to join the Intelligence Directorate.
You will be part of a team that directly supports and drives the Intelligence Directorate missions. You will work with unique datasets, develop new tools, drive analytical capabilities, and overcome technical challenges. The team provides ongoing capability development and analytic support while quickly pivoting to meet operational demands. You will be directly contributing to the security of New Zealand while pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
The team has a broad range of skills to support the diverse requirements of the intelligence mission. Typical work could include:
- Performing, and then automating, complex analysis across a wide range of datasets
- Developing custom solutions to progress data analysis and data engineering
- Leveraging your telecommunications and infrastructure expertise to drive capability development
- Gleaning insights from our disparate data sets: identifying trends, changes, and summarising current information
- Maintaining, progressing, and supporting systems that enable data analytics, data flow, and data insights
**About you**
Relevant experience would include strong practical problem-solving skills, complex analysis skills, software engineering, system administration, data science, data engineering, telecommunications knowledge, or ad-hoc scripting.
To be considered for this position you will need to be available to **attend a full day Assessment Centre in central Wellington**, on one of the following days:
- **Friday 17**th** October**:
- **Monday 20**th** October**:
- **Wednesday 22**nd** October**

- There will be two cohorts. Successful applicants will start with us either in **early 2026** or **mid 2026**:
- Appointing range:
- **Level 1: $73,684 - $78,596**:
- **Level 2: $103,009 - $109,876**:
- **Level 3: $120,359 - $128,383**

**Before you apply**
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
- OR
- Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
