Cyclone Recovery Unit
Fixed Term, October 2024 - March 2025 (potential to extend to June 2025)
The Cyclone Recovery Unit (the CRU) was stood up in March 2023 and established for two years and is hosted by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The purpose of the CRU is to support the Chief Executive Cyclone Recovery to: coordinate cross-government work on North Island Weather Event (NIWE) recovery; ensure robust planning, accountability, reporting and oversight of government funding for NIWE recovery led by local councils; coordinate NIWE recovery reporting and advice to ministers; lead the design and delivery of the Government's support pathway for severely affected Whenua Māori and Marae; and ensure alignment of the NIWE recovery work with broader policy decisions on climate adaption and long-term resilience.
About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
The Director, Office of the CE is a member of the CRU Leadership Team and provides advice and support to the Chief Executive and the Leadership Team on strategic direction-setting; identifying and managing critical issues; and coordinating and prioritising the inflow of work. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring effective support is provided to the Minister of Emergency Management and Recovery for cyclone recovery matters.
The role includes leadership of the Chief Executive's office, which coordinates the Unit's human resources, financial management, business support, procurement and Ministerial correspondence processes. The office is also responsible for the communications team and supporting all parts of the CRU to ensure that communication external to the Unit has the appropriate consistent messaging and plain English collateral.
We're looking for an experienced person with a proven background and ability in:

- a significant senior level role managing corporate processes, organisational change and development, and providing or co-ordinating business support activities to a business group,
- proven ability to manage budgets, contracts/procurements and projects,
- effective stakeholder management and ability to build strong relationships with a broad range of cross agency stakeholders,
- problem solving ability in the context of high level levels of ambiguity and uncertainty,
- working and making decisions at pace and resolving issues and potential conflicts,
- working with ministerial offices and briefing Ministers.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following assets:

This role reports to the Chief Executive, Cyclone Recovery.
It is a Wellington based fixed term role required from the end of October to March 2025 with the potential to extend to June 2025.
