**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Analyst to join the Tourism Evidence and Insights team within MBIE's Evidence and Insights branch. You will lead projects that involve collating, analysing tourism data, and presenting them using interactive data visualisation methods. You will also lead engagement with data providers and stakeholders in the tourism sector. You will come at time when the Ministry is strengthening its staff’s research, analytics and evaluation capabilities.
As Principal Analyst, you will lead a data and analytics programme that contributes to monitoring and research of tourism activity in New Zealand. You will work closely with policy teams to support the development of evidence-based tourism policy settings, and with the Tourism Data Leadership Group to better respond to information needs of stakeholders.
As a thought leader, you will provide strategic direction to the team’s data and analytics work programme, ensuring fit-for-purpose tools and data products. You will bring new ideas, techniques and knowledge to better the analysis and reporting of tourism statistics. You will also lend your expertise in generating insights to inform research and policy discussions in the tourism space.
As technical lead, you will work closely with Senior Data and Research Analysts to maintain and further develop the team’s core tourism data products, generate insights from the International Visitor Survey and the Tourism Evidence and Insights Centre (TEIC). You will bring new ideas, techniques and knowledge to improve the analysis and reporting of tourism statistics. You will also play a lead role in tourism data development and governance, data sharing agreements and procurement of data services.

We are keen to hear from you if you have (several of the following):
- An in-depth knowledge of research, technical or analytical disciplines and processes, including latest developments in techniques and practices.
- Experience in successfully leading large and complex projects, considering both strategic and short-term needs, using data from multiple sources and procuring data services.
- Excellent communication, writing and coaching skills to embed a culture of excellence in the branch.
- Experience in influencing policy makers and other stakeholders using a relationship approach.
- Know the value of collaboration, confident in working with others with diverse skillsets and perspectives.
- A tertiary qualification (preferably post-graduate) in a relevant discipline.
