Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Lead Advisor Operational Issues provides expertise in Issues Management, and provides leadership, mentoring, support and quality assurance over the work of the Operational Issues Team. The role leads some of the most complex and challenging work the Operational Issues Team is responsible for, and is in essence the 2IC for the team, deputising for the Manager Operational Issues as required.
The purpose of this role is to lead service delivery in managing operational issues with a view to lift operational awareness and capability in this areas as well as on going focus on opportunities for continuous improvement.
**Some key responsibilities include**:
- Provide quality assurance leadership for cases, analysis and advice provided by the team, ensuring that information is accurate and presented in a suitable form to meet the needs of the audience.
- Lead and/or play a key role in developments to improve the operational decision making and continuous improvement within the team and wider Service Delivery.
- Identify opportunities and contribute to better support for frontline staff and management with regards to issues management.
- Escalate any identified gaps in services within the region so gaps in service can be addressed

**Key requirements of the role include**:
- A relevant tertiary qualification would be advantageous
- Recognised commitment to te Ao Māori and the promotion of tikanga and te reo Māori, and commitment to ongoing development of cultural competency within the team
- Proven experience in a social work context
- Ability to handle confidential material in a professional and discrete manner and the ability to generate confidence when dealing with officials, Oranga Tamariki managers and staff
- Demonstrated background leading the analysis and drafting of reports, official correspondence and other papers such as Ministerial briefings.
- Willingness to travel within New Zealand to fulfil the requirements of the role
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate solutions with external organisations in difficult circumstances
- Strong commitment to attaining goals and strong problem resolution and decision making skills
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
