Te Manatū Waka
is the system leader for the whole of the transport sector whether it's on
land, at sea, in the air, or connecting Aotearoa to the world. Transport plays

important mahi includes improving road safety outcomes, reducing transport
emissions, enabling emerging aviation technologies and providing strategic
direction on future transport infrastructure investments.

The Crown
Entity Monitoring team leads the Ministry's monitoring, governance and
assurance functions relating to the transport Crown entities (Waka Kotahi NZ
Transport Agency, Maritime NZ, Civil Aviation Authority, Transport Accident
Investigation Commission, City Rail Link Ltd and Auckland Light Rail Ltd). We advise
Ministers on the governance and performance of these entities, and on appointments
to the entity boards. The team also has the responsibility for guiding entities
through their periodic fees and funding reviews. All team members engage
regularly with senior leaders within both the Ministry and the Crown entities,
as well as directly with Ministers.
You will
be joining a lively and friendly team who truly believe in their mahi to help Crown
entities succeed and deliver the best possible outcomes for New Zealanders.
This adviser
role will be mainly focussed on board appointments, helping Ministers to find
the best people to lead and govern our Crown entities. Your key
responsibilities will include.
- Searching
transport Crown entity boards
writing Cabinet papers to progress appointments through the Cabinet Committee
and Cabinet process
- Building positive relationships with board chairs, the Minister's office
and other nomination and appointing agencies
- Contributing to team and Ministry planning processes, and to the
development of strategies and work programmes
- Developing
and maintaining a good understanding of the principles and practices relating
to governance and Crown entity monitoring
- Responding
to Ministerial requests, Parliamentary questions and requests for information
under the Official Information Act.

understanding of the machinery of government
- Good
interpersonal and relationship skills and the ability to confidently engage
- Attention
to detail and effective planning and organisational skills
- Excellent
communication skills, both written and verbal
- Previous
experience or exposure to the public sector and/or transport sector is
desirable but not essential

The salary
range for the role is $69,507 - $102,931. The salary offered will be based on your
skills and experience.
