Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Data privacy is the new frontier
- Agile, independent, courageous regulator
- Flexible, inclusive, collaborative working environment

Privacy is precious - help protect it
We are Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator, a small, independent Crown entity charged with promoting and protecting privacy.

The opportunity
Data privacy impacts everyone. Come join us as a Policy Adviser or Senior Policy Adviser, depending on your level of policy experience and skills, to make a difference to the protection of New Zealanders' privacy. You will be part of a team that leads policy work initiated by the Privacy Commissioner into significant issues of public concern, and on new and emerging privacy risks and threats. The team also leads thinking and provides high quality advice about the implications of new initiatives, technologies, government policy, legislation, and business and other developments relating to privacy. Your work will inform the policy positions taken by the Privacy Commissioner.

At the Policy Adviser level, you will support the development of policy projects, provide sound advice about privacy implications, prepare reports, and undertake research and monitoring of privacy related developments in New Zealand and internationally. The role is a unique opportunity to work in a highly topical area within a supportive and collaborative environment, that can also help further your professional development. You will ideally have had 1 - 2 years' experience in an advisory or analytical role.

At the Senior Policy Adviser level you will be required to provide very high quality policy advice that is intellectually rigorous and well-judged, and be able to identify effective and innovative policy solutions to deliver the best privacy outcomes for the highest public benefit. You need the skill and experience to lead and manage large or complex pieces of policy work or projects, be able to supervise, coach and mentor less experienced policy staff, help build policy capability, and provide quality assurance across the policy team. You must also have the thought and systems leadership to assist with the design, implementation and evaluation of the team's strategic goals and business plans, and the continuous improvement of its systems and processes. You will have had 3 - 5 years' policy experience.

What you will need to succeed
You will have access to ongoing training opportunities to fully utilise and develop your skills and experience.

You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
Applications close 9 am, Monday, 20 March, unless the roles are filled prior.
