**Job Description** Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**
As our **Waste Minimisation Specialist**, you will have a unique opportunity to use your professional experience to help drive us to fulfil our sustainability and Net Zero carbon commitments through forward-thinking waste prevention and resource recovery operations.

Your ability to deliver goals effectively, sound professional judgement, and decision-making will be fundamental to your success in this highly visible position in the delivery of forward-thinking waste prevention and resource recovery operations that fulfil the University’s commitments and provide excellent service to the University community.
**The key focus areas for this role are**:
- Deliver plans and initiatives and contribute to waste policy and guidelines.
- Provide technical advice on waste operations and system design in a manner that leads to meeting best practices and innovation and meets relevant standards.
- Ongoing monitoring and reporting aligns with best practice, national and international standards and the University’s internal and external requirements under the Net Zero target of 50% reduction in waste by 2030.
- Supply chain and stakeholder engagement and education.
- Contract management of waste and resource recovery services.

**Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team**
You will be line managed by our Campus Operations Manager and work closely with other direct members of the wider property team, but you will work with autonomy and be the main driver of operations for waste management.
Your office is located in our city centre campus on Symonds Street. Most of your work will be done from there, but with that said you will still travel around Auckland (occasionally including our satellite campuses) for meetings and inspections.

**E rapua ana mātou | We are seeking**
- Relevant Higher Education qualification or professional experience.
- Understanding of New Zealand waste regulatory frameworks.
- Understanding of Health and Safety Standards and Worksafe practices.
- Waste assessment and/or Auditing experience.
- Strong negotiation skills and contract management experience.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Windows-based computer systems.
- Ability to maintain databases, interpret statistics and write clear reports.
