Te tūnga | The role
The Chief Enterprise Architect reports to the DCE/DGS Strategy, People & Resources, and leads the Enterpise Architecture function to create and maintain an enterprise design pathway for realising our Strategic Priorities, ensuring the organisation has the design information needed to inform investment and guide and govern change initiatives effectively.
The Enterpise Architecture function is being re-established within the organisation, shifting from a programme focus to a design practice focused on strategic organisational outcomes. This shift will design for customer value that centres around data, information products, and the services needed to deliver these. With this, design partnerships are key, and cultural, ethical and privacy considerations are paramount.
You will lead the team and the enterprise into this space, ensuring the enterprise is designed well to deliver customer outcomes by fostering international enterprise design perspectives and best practices that build towards this. This includes building and extending the capability of the enterprise architecture team, and fostering the design capability needed across the organisation.

- Your experience working in the role of Chief Enterprise Architect or equivalent enterprise design role for strategic outcomes in complex enterprise environments.
- Leading collaboratively across executive and senior leadership within an organisation to deliver agreed design outcomes.
- Providing assurance on the feasibility and viability of enterprise designs to leadership and internal and external stakeholders, including traceability of strategic alignment to outcomes.
- Governance and management of enterprise design, for example providing transparency on and escalation of design risks, issues, and alignment to strategy.
- Provision of advice to leadership, internal and external stakeholders on enterprise design and implementation options and their trade-off's.
- Leading the establishment and evolution enterprise architecture practices, building enterprise architecture teams, as well as building internal design and design management capability across an organisation.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to liaise and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organisation, and ability to build and maintain strategic relationships.
- Information about your knowledge and experience, or desire to learn and build knowledge and experience of Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori, and engagement with Māori.
- How you've demonstrated or encouraged diversity and inclusion in and/or outside of work.
- Examples where you've shown curiosity and tried new things, taken on other perspectives, challenged the norm, reflected on your own and other's behaviours, attitudes or motivations to learn and lead.
- Understanding of the machinery of government and related processes and procedures.
