**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
The New Zealand Space Agency (NZSA) sits within the Science, Innovation and International branch of MBIE. The NZSA has three core functions: Policy, Sector Development and Regulatory Systems. These functions are fulfilled by the Space Policy and Sector Development, and the Space Regulatory Systems teams.

The Principal Policy Advisor - Sector Development leads the New Zealand Space Agency’s sector development efforts. This includes overseeing the work of a small team working directly with stakeholders in industry and research institutions to help our space sector to flourish. The role is varied, fast paced, and at the leading edge of innovation and economic development.
- You will be working directly with the sector to understand current opportunities and challenges around future growth. This includes established companies, start-ups, research institutions, and other government agencies
- Advancing opportunities will require you to build strong relationships, and connections within MBIE and wider government. You will also work to implement actions in the Aerospace Strategy, and lead input on the sector development areas of the Space Policy Review currently in development.
- You will lead work on negotiating international partnerships as well as developing joint research programmes in line with New Zealand’s science and innovation priorities.
- You will also have your finger on the pulse of the global space sector to guide the NZSA’s policy programme.

- Experience leading complex policy projects within central government
- Subject knowledge of sector development policy issues, and an understanding of New Zealand’s space industry
- Wide ranging knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
- Strong stakeholder relationship building, influencing and engagement skills to gain the cooperation and commitment of others
- Demonstrated capability in working with Ministers, senior public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
- Previous success in building the overall capability of a team through guiding and mentoring senior advisors and advisors in their day to day work
- The ability to work through ambiguity and deliver results
- Must have legal right to live and work in NZ
