The National Cyber Security Centre is the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand's cyber defence. We fulfil the cyber security responsibilities of the GCSB and the Government Chief Information Security Officer.
The NCSC is strengthening its leadership to remain ready to meet the shifting operating environment. The Director Capability is the NCSC's chief technology officer - a newly created tier three role responsible for maturing the NCSC's existing accesses, platforms and technical cyber security services and associated processes. The Director will build the future roadmaps and technology to enhance NCSC's collective impact. They will work with NCSC leaders, customers and partners, internal and external service providers and international counterparts.
To be successful, you will

- Have demonstrable success building sustainable approaches and modelling security by design while navigating niche demands
- Possess great people leadership skills and prioritise setting a positive work culture
- Be effective at instituting systems and processes, and adept at managing stakeholders with competing priorities
- Have strong engagement skills in domestic and international settings
Director Cyber Defence Operations
The Director Cyber Defence Operations leads the NCSC's threat analytics, cyber intelligence and assessment, and the government's 24/7 cyber incident response coordination. They are the primary internal customer of the Director Capability and work closely with other NCSC tier three leaders. They are a key contributor to the wider national security system across national policy, intelligence, operations and incident response.
To be successful, you will
- Be a successful operational leader with demonstrable experience leading cross-functionally, across line management, towards collective outcomes
- Possess great people leadership and prioritise setting a positive work culture
- Be effective at identifying, managing and escalating risk and exercising judgment in ambiguous, fast paced, high profile operational contexts
- Have a calm effective communication style, capable of contextualising information for decision makers and across government
- Be experienced in effective cross-agency governance, building trust in interagency forums and navigating diverse stakeholder sets
- Have demonstrable experience developing system-level frameworks as well as operational workflow, policies and processes
- Have strong engagement skills in domestic and international settings
