**About us**
HEB Construction is a Tier‑1 civil construction company and a member of VINCI Construction Americas - Oceania. We deliver multi‑discipline infrastructure that sustains and connects our communities—across sub‑divisions, roads and bridges, three‑waters, pumping stations, treatment plants, traffic management, piling, wharf construction, precast and landscaping. In Civil Northern, we operate from the Bombay Hills through to Northland. HEB has a supportive and values-driven culture**:We are Open. We are Real. We work Together. We Care. We Deliver.**
**The opportunity**
As a Senior Surveyor in our Civil Northern team you’ll be the go‑to technical partner on land development, drainage and three‑waters infrastructure, transport corridors and landscape projects. You’ll own the full survey lifecycle—from pre‑construction set‑out and machine control enablement through to as‑builts and data handover—ensuring works are set out accurately, built right first time, and documented to client and council standards. Our civil portfolio includes sub‑divisions, roads and bridges, stormwater, and landscaped public realm—offering variety and long‑term pipeline.
**Key responsibilities**
- **Construction set‑out & control**: Establish control networks; perform topographic and feature surveys; set out for earthworks, drainage, utilities, pavements, kerb/footpath and streetscapes.
- **Digital delivery**: Prepare and manage survey models (e.g., 12d/Civil 3D) and upload data to total stations/GNSS and machine control; maintain metadata, coordinate systems and version control.
- **UAV/drone photogrammetry**: Plan and execute UAV flights for terrain capture, generate point clouds and orthophotos, and integrate outputs into design and as‑built workflows.
- **Quality & compliance**: Produce as‑builts, conformance records and survey reports to client, council and project specs; support QA/ITP close‑out and GIS/asset data where required.
- **Stakeholder interface**: Work with Engineers, Forepersons and Subcontractors to sequence works, solve site constraints and de‑conflict utilities/services.
- **H&S leadership**: Plan and execute safe survey operations in live civil sites and road corridors; champion risk assessments and permit/traffic management requirements.
- **Continuous improvement**: Help refine survey workflows, file standards and field‑to‑office processes (TBC/Leica Infinity/12d Synergy), and mentor junior team members.
**Minimum education**
- **Diploma or Bachelor’s degree** in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering (surveying major), or closely related field.
- Membership (or eligibility) with **S+SNZ/NZIS** (or equivalent) advantageous.
- Licensed Cadastral Surveyor status is a plus but **not required** (this role is construction‑focused).
**Minimum experience**
- **7+ years’ experience** in civil construction surveying
- Extensive experience across **land development, roading, and 3-waters projects**
- Proven capability working on complex, multi-stage civil projects
- Proven capability with **GNSS RTK**, **robotic total stations**, and field controllers; confident with **12d Model (or Civil 3D)** and **Trimble Business Center or Leica Infinity** for processing.
- Demonstrated delivery of **as‑builts/conformance** to local authority/client standards.
- **Exposure to UAV/drone photogrammetry** for terrain capture and integration into survey workflows.
- Current **Full NZ Class 1** driver licence and the **right to work in New Zealand**.
**Key competencies**
- **Accuracy & detail orientation**: Sets out and checks works to tight tolerances; meticulous data management.
- **Planning & prioritisation**: Organises daily survey programmes to meet multiple crews and critical path milestones.
- **Problem solving**: Diagnoses model/coordinate issues, clashes and design inconsistencies; proposes buildable solutions.
- **Collaboration & communication**: Clear, constructive interface with engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and clients.
- **Digital fluency**: Confident moving between field instruments, models and office platforms; comfortable with machine control workflows.
- **Safety first mindset**: Exemplary H&S behaviours in live civil and traffic environments.
