The Opportunity

We're representing a successful main contractor known for its repeat clients, long-term subcontractor relationships, and high-quality delivery. With a solid pipeline of work across interiors, refurbishments, and commercial construction, they're now seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to take charge of their commercial team and drive strong project outcomes.

You'll oversee all cost, contract, and commercial activities while providing strategic input across the business. This is a leadership role for someone who can combine technical accuracy with relationship-based management.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and mentor a team of three hardworking Quantity Surveyors
  • Report directly to the Managing Directors and provide regular commercial updates
  • Manage projects across the Upper North Island, from pre-construction through to completion
  • Oversee cost planning, tendering, procurement, variations, and final accounts
  • Work on predominantly design-and-build, negotiated contracts
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with long-standing subcontractors and clients
  • Ensure commercial success through proactive cost control and risk management

What we're looking for

  • 8+ years' experience in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management within construction or interiors
  • Strong financial management skills and proven leadership experience
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building ability
  • Experience with design-and-build, negotiated projects preferred
  • Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar
