Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
- Are you a highly motivated and experienced licensed Cadastral Surveyor?
- Do you enjoy solving complex survey problems, and supporting others to do the same?
- Do you want to have fun at work and great work/life balance?
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) has an opportunity for a licensed Cadastral Surveyor.
The role of the Property Rights business group includes ensuring surveys being integrated into the cadastre satisfy the regulatory standards set by the Surveyor-General. A team of Customer Regulatory Specialists are trained in this work, supported in their technical knowledge by a group of Cadastral Surveyors.
As a “go-to” expert for technical survey advice, you will be someone who is passionate about sharing your knowledge with LINZ staff to help build their capability and support their interactions with the survey profession. You will use your experience and knowledge to assist surveyors with complex situations and with first-time compliance with the Rules. You will contribute towards driving continuous improvement, education and ensuring LINZ provides outstanding customer service.
Cadastral Surveyors at LINZ agree that one of the most rewarding parts of the role is “expanding the pool of cadastral survey knowledge and developing the breadth of their own expertise.” All this, and no more time sheets, invoicing and debt recovery.
The Survey and Title Compliance Strategy 2024-2027 was published in March 2024. The role of the Property Rights Cadastral Surveyor is likely to evolve over its implementation to help deliver a fair and transparent regulatory system.

You may notice that the Position Description title for this role (Cadastral Surveyor - Level Rua / Two) doesn't match the advertised title. At Toitū Te Whenua we design our roles around shared capabilities (rather than focusing on tasks). This means our position descriptions are broad, one position description can cover many roles, this is known as Broad Based Role (BBR). Using BBR allows us to be responsive to our customers and to strengthen the connections across our organisation. It also gives us the flexibility to provide wider opportunities to our people, to further their careers.
