The University of Otago, Christchurch campus is the base for medical and postgraduate health education and health research in Christchurch. We collaborate closely in our research and student programmes with the region’s hospitals run by the Canterbury District Health Board, and other community health agencies.

We have more than 1000 students on campus. This includes medical students in their three clinical years of training, and postgraduate health sciences students undertaking a range of programmes to PhD level.

The University of Otago, Christchurch was the top ranked of New Zealand’s four medical schools in the Government’s 2012 and 2006 Performance Based Research Funding Assessments (PBRF).

**_ The role/Te mahi_**

This is a research funded position with the Christchurch Heart Institute (CHI) primarily for the analysis of hormone levels in human and animal plasma by immunoassay.
- Receive and log samples into StarLims database as required.
- Extract peptide and protein samples from human and animal plasma.
- Analyse research samples by ELISA, RIA, Luminex, automated analyser and other techniques as required. Samples can be plasma, extract or other purified methods and sources. Prepare assay reagents including standards, antisera and quality controls. Ensure reagents perform satisfactorily. Input and maintain up to date results in STARLIMS database.
- Do preparation and HPLC purification of radioactive peptides with 125I.
- Assist with antiserum raising in rabbits or other species.
- Undertake pre-checking of assays as required prior to submission to assay supervisor for final check and release.

A tertiary qualification (NZCS or BSc) with several years’ experience in immunoassay.
