Medical Laboratory Technician

- Salary Band is $52,260 to $81,542 paid as per PSA attached.

**_ The Team: _**What we do**

Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is a busy diagnostic facility providing services to in-patients and outpatients at Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury within Christchurch. You - ll be working for the largest medical laboratory in the South Island which is also a major secondary/tertiary referral centre with a varied and challenging case load. We have a modern and well-equipped lab including a good range of specialist equipment.

We have a part-time opportunity (32hrs per week) for a Medical Laboratory Pre-analytical Technician (MLPAT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our Specimen Services team The role will encompass **midnight to 8:00am shifts** on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings and another day/evening shift as well as rostered weekends.

**Registration with the Medical Sciences Council as a MLPAT/MLT is essential. Must hold a current APC. CPD participation with NZILMS also required.**

**_The Role:_** Where you fit in**

In this role, you will be responsible for:

- Providing a high-quality service to clients
- Registering samples into the Delphic LIS, and carrying out processes required for the pre-analytical processing of samples
- Interpretation and input of request forms
- Checking of data for accuracy and information
- Answering telephone enquiries in our Lab line call centre
- Liaising with staff, patients and referrers effectively
- Co-ordinating shipments (outgoing and incoming)
- Troubleshooting and basic maintenance of equipment/instrumentation
- Knowledge of Core chemistry
- Operating the Lamson system
- Working independently on the midnight shift
- Managing and prioritising large volumes of work

Your skills will include:

- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- The ability to contribute to and improve personal and team performance
- Data entry experience, competent level computer skills is preferable
- Familiarity with laboratory processes and experience in a similar role
- The ability to perform rostered shifts in a 24 hour, 7 days per week Health Laboratory
