Jhunjhnuwala Family Māori and Pacific Youth

The Jhunjhunwala family in conjunction with Hind Management is proud to offer the Māori and Pacific Youth Scholarship in 2025. This initiative is aimed at attracting Māori and Pacific Youth who are not currently in paid employment, education or training**. **It will provide young Māori and Pacific Youth with hands-on experience in hotel operations including customer service & sustainability, while nurturing confidence, connection and leadership skills. On offer is the choice of one of two internships: Te Aranuku and Te Ararangi Internships. The Internship will be carried out in one of Sudima's 7 Hotels located in New Zealand in Auckland, Rotorua, Kaikoura, Christchurch and Queenstown.
**Te Aranuku (Focussed Journey)**
- Intake in Sudima Hotels in February and October 2025
- 3 month internship in one Department
- $25 Hourly Rate
- 20-30 hours per week flexible around study commitments
- Interns choose one Department to work in. Options Include Rooms Division, Food & Beverage or Culinary (Kitchen) Department.
**Te Ararangi (Full Circle Journey)**
- Commencing in October 2025
- Six month job rotation internship
- $25 Hourly Rate
- 20-30 hours per week, flexible around study commitments
- Interns rotate around hotel Departments. Includes time spent in Rooms Division, Front Office, Administration, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverage Department
- Interns will have the opportunity to shadow a leader in the final weeks.
**Requirements**:
The scholarship is open to New Zealand residents of Māori and Pacific descent who are:
- Aged between 16-24 years
- Pursuing a hotel or hospitality career
- Seeking further studies in hotel, hospitality management, events, or tourism studies or recent graduates of these studies (within 6 months of graduation)
**Benefits**
- One off Scholarships or study grants upon completion. $1000 for the three month internship and $2000 for the six month internship.
- Travel Stipends/Accommodation: $300 for the 3 month internship and $600 for the six month internship
- Work time for self-directed learning and access to library of e-learning modules on Te Kura (Hind Management’s Learning Platform).
- Internal Training focusing on customer service, communication, leadership and DEI awareness.
- Tailored cultural mentorship by Māori and Pacific leaders or mentors trained in cultural awareness.
- Leadership development opportunities, including workshops with industry leaders from Māori and Pacific communities.
- Involvement of whānau and community in key program milestones An example is an invite to the hotel upon completion fo the internship program for presentation.
- Ongoing access to professional development opportunities post-internship for three months.
- Guaranteed job interviews for high-performing interns for current vacancies.
- Partnerships with Māori and Pacific-owned businesses for networking and career opportunities.
- Cultural leave for interns to attend to whānau or community responsibilities.
- Well-being programs based on Te Whare Tapa Whā (Māori model of holistic health).
