**Te Hononga** has been designed in ways that have comparison to te ao Māori concepts of hononga (connection), mahitahi (collaboration) and iho pūmanawa (strengths based work) that can cater to diverse needs of rangatahi in Ōtautahi, Christchurch.

A typical session would have a volunteer pick up a small group (2-3) youth from schools or home and take them into the community for approx. 1.5 hours. The session may be a nature walk, or a visit to a wildlife reserve or café. In these sessions there is a focus on providing a safe space for the rangatahi to express themselves, while also providing guidance to the goals of the session. Volunteers are required to commit to the programme for a minimum of 3 hours per week for 8/12 months.
- Interest and experience working with children/youth
- Knowledge of NZ Youth Development strategy
- Full driver's licence
- Must be able to return a clear Police vetting check
- Be able to provide CV and references
- Have optimistic and positive view of youth and diversity.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Be available for a minimum of 3 hours a week
- Keep a consistent weekly schedule
- Build trusting relationships with youth
