Build and develop a team responsible for the Ministry’s talent acquisition and staff mobility strategies
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Our well respected and relationship focused Global Careers Team provides agile and flexible people resourcing services to ensure that we have staff with the right skills where we need them, when we need them.
As Head of Talent Acquisition (officially titled Head of Global Careers) you will oversee strategic and operational activities in the areas of talent acquisition, centralised recruitment, internal senior management and Head of Mission appointments, as well as early in careers (graduate and intern) recruitment.
You’ll work closely with other teams throughout our People Division including our Culture and Capability and People Delivery teams to ensure that our Ministry has the people it needs to deliver great outcomes for New Zealanders here and overseas.
This is a busy, relationship focused, strategic leadership role and due to the high profile nature of some of the roles we recruit, it can require a fair bit of political nous - as well as an excellent understanding of the Machinery of Government.
**Your top priorities as Head of Global Careers will be to**:
- Lead, support and develop a team of five recruitment advisers responsible for end to end recruitment in a “leader led, recruitment supported” recruitment model.
- Work closely with the business, with the wider People Division and with our foreign policy staff to identify development opportunities so that we can grow New Zealand's diplomats for the future.
- Ensure that MFAT hiring managers receive excellent guidance, advise and support in their recruitment activities
In addition we have a brand new HRIS (SAP SuccessFactors) and there are opportunities to further adapt our processes to make the most of our new technology - as well as to support and educate our hiring managers to use it well.
Our team members come from a variety of backgrounds and each of us has unique experiences to contribute - however one thing we all agree on is that it’s a great team in which to build our recruitment/talent acquisition skills and develop our knowledge of a fascinating organisation.
We are a collaborative team, we have each other’s back, we love trading kid and pet stories, going for coffees and sharing chocolate and feijoas; but we’re also ready to roll up our sleeves, help each other out, and do the mahi
For more detail you can view a copy of the position description here
The full salary range for this role is $140,712 to $190,376 total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution.
We expect to appoint around the midpoint $165,544 - negotiable depending on your level of experience.
Mā wai te mahi nei? - Who are we looking for?
- Extensive experience implementing and delivering effective and efficient people strategies and programmes of work, specifically in the areas of talent acquisition, resourcing and mobility strategy.
- Experience in People Division/HR Functional Leadership roles.
- Experience coaching and developing high performing teams.
- Ability to build relationships, influence and persuade at all levels within an organisation, including outside of direct reporting lines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information logically and concisely.
- Ability to operate strategically and develop trust and credibility with Senior Leaders.
- A growth mind-set and desire for continual development/learning
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, manage and inspire others.
Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.
If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too - as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability. As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, this is important to us and we offer training and support.
