Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the administrative, technical and scientific work of our Microbiology Department. This includes:

  • Providing expert guidance on technical and scientific matters
  • Training and educating staff members
  • Collaborating with the HOD to ensure the smooth operation of the department
  • Managing staff performance and productivity
  • Developing and implementing new methodologies and procedures
  • Ensuring the highest standards of quality and patient safety

Key Responsibilities

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will also be responsible for:

  • Managing stock control and consumption
  • Participating in departmental planning and policy-making
  • Coordinating workflow and prioritizing tasks to meet client requirements

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of New Zealand
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in microbiology
  • Excellent knowledge of medical diagnostic molecular platforms and techniques
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
