Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal Advisor to provide high-quality hauora Maori, Tiriti, and equity guidance. This role involves leading innovative initiatives within the Ministry of Health.

This is an opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact in the pursuit of pae ora (healthy futures) for Maori. You will help shape key work programmes, support people leaders, and contribute to a future that centres equity, collaboration, and innovation to improve health outcomes for Maori.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build partnerships with people leaders by collaborating on hauora Maori, Tiriti, and equity solutions.
  • Drive cultural growth by promoting effective policies, programmes, and practices across the Ministry.
  • Champion innovation by leading approaches and key work programmes aligned with the Ministry's mission and priorities for hauora Maori excellence.
  • Strengthen capability by mentoring business partners and teams to build Hauora Maori, Tiriti o Waitangi, and equity knowledge and competencies.
  • Provide expert advice and thought leadership on strategic solutions and work programmes to deliver impactful outcomes.

You'll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, and experience creating and maintaining trusting and productive business partnering relationships.
  • A deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity and its application to government policy contexts.
  • Senior experience providing high-quality advice and support in business partnering relationships that deliver effective results.
  • Knowledge and understanding of central government, ministry, and ministerial settings, legislative and policy context for hauora Maori.
  • Knowledge and understanding of systems and design thinking with demonstrated experience in facilitating system change in complex organisations.
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Maori and understanding of matauranga Maori.
