Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head Technician to provide management of undergraduate laboratories. The successful candidate will have a strong background in laboratory procedures and excellent leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and implementation of laboratory procedures and protocols
  • Managing laboratory resources and personnel, including supervising staff and training junior technicians
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders, including students, faculty, and administrative staff
  • Developing and implementing operational plans to achieve departmental goals

Requirements:

  • A Postgraduate science qualification or 5+ years proven practical experience in laboratory procedures
  • Relevant management and leadership qualities with skills in operational planning and control of resources
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Able to prioritise work and perform effectively without supervision
  • Knowledge of bacterial and mammalian cell culture, molecular and biological techniques
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programmes
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with various people

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary range from $93,321 to $101,963, with potential for top-of-range $110,603 per annum, pro rata
  • A full-time, permanent position located in Dunedin

  • A comprehensive benefits package, including five weeks' annual leave (pro rata for part-time hours) and a 6.75% superannuation scheme
