The technical team provides support to the Biochemistry and Genetics teaching programmes to ensure students studying towards undergraduate Science and professional degrees gain hands-on experience and learn critical skills to propel them into fulfilling, world-class careers.The role/Te mahiWe are seeking applications for the position of Head Technician to provide management of undergraduate laboratories, providing a high level of technical expertise and leadership to ensure an efficient and effective delivery of various laboratory courses.We are looking for candidates who have:A Postgraduate science qualification, or 5+ years proven practical experience in laboratory procedures.Relevant management and leadership qualities with skills in operational planning and control of resources.Experience supervising staff and ability to train and teach junior technicians.Excellent communication and organisational skills.Ability to prioritise work and perform effectively without supervision.Knowledge of bacterial and mammalian cell culture, molecular and biological techniques.Knowledge of PC1 and PC2 operating conditions for microorganisms and plants, PC2 operating conditions for invertebrates and relevant MPI and IBSC standards.Experience working with and disposing of GM organisms and uncleared biological products.Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programmes.Well-established time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks and adhere to strict deadlines.Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with various people.This is a full-time (37.5 hours), permanent position, located in Dunedin.
