Land Vertebrate Collection Manager and Gallery Development Expert

Auckland War Memorial Museum is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Collection Manager, Land Vertebrates and Gallery Renewal. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of world-class collections and exhibits, while fostering collaborative partnerships within the museum and beyond.
About the Role:
This permanent, full-time position involves the expert care and management of the Museum's Land Vertebrate and Tissue collections. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills, including knowledge of collection management databases and data management software.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise collection technicians and volunteers, ensuring the efficient operation of assigned collection areasDevelop and implement collection management strategies to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of the collectionsCollaborate with the wider Natural Sciences team to develop innovative exhibit concepts and educational programsPrioritize competing demands from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration throughout the organizationRequirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Tertiary Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in Natural Sciences, preferably specializing in Land Vertebrates
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a collection management or collections-based role, with demonstrated knowledge of collection management practices
Skill Set:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing tissue sample collections
- Knowledge of Linnean classification systems and taxonomic science
- Experience in the field collection, preparation, and preservation of Land Vertebrate specimens and genetic tissue samples
