Job Overview

The University of Canterbury is seeking a skilled and experienced procurement professional to join our Financial Services team as a Procurement Expert Leader.

About the Position

  • This is a full-time position with a salary range of $103,235 - $128,403.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and execution of best practice procurement strategies.
  • You will collaborate with senior leaders and key stakeholders to implement innovative procurement strategies that support the University's mission and goals.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development and execution of best practice procurement strategies.
  2. Collaborate on large-scale, multi-stakeholder procurement initiatives.
  3. Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  4. Contribute to policy development, educate stakeholders, and ensure procurement practices meet the University's compliance, operational, and strategic objectives.
  5. Evaluate supplier proposals, negotiate agreements, and support contract implementation and supplier relationship management.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in management, procurement or relevant field.
  • IPS Membership: Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) membership.
  • At least 10 years' procurement expertise, managing large scale procurement projects in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience in managing corporate, legal, library, digital, and maintenance contracts (an advantage).
  • Proven ability to manage contracts throughout their lifecycle, ensuring sound decision-making and optimal outcomes.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive partnerships.
  • A thorough understanding of current market conditions and business needs that influence procurement strategies.
  • A strong understanding of the financial, risk, and legal aspects of procurement and contract management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
