About You

The ideal candidate for the District Chief Midwife position should possess a combination of clinical leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of Te Tiriti principles and equity-based frameworks. They will be registered with the Midwifery Council in New Zealand and have a current Midwifery APC. A Vulnerable Children's Act (VCA) worker cleared and competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting their journey and taking ownership of their learning and growth are also essential requirements.

The District Chief Midwife will play a crucial role in empowering the midwifery and maternity workforce to deliver high-quality patient and whānau care. This requires a strong understanding of quality improvement projects or initiatives, such as patient and whānau outcomes, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare settings.
