We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Advisor to join our newly created People & Culture Hub at the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC).

This is a fixed-term opportunity until July 2025 that offers the chance to contribute to the delivery of critical Human Resources advice and support to managers, team leaders, and supervisors across the Department.

We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of human resources, employment legislation, and best practices who can provide expert HR advice and support to a diverse range of leaders.

The ideal candidate will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including union representatives and public sector agencies.

This role provides the opportunity to contribute to the development and application of HR policies and procedures while participating in change management and improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing timely and efficient advice on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Contributing to the development and application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing HR tasks proactively.

The successful applicant will be required to work collaboratively within teams and with external stakeholders, possessing proven ability to do so.

The selected individual will also be expected to understand the Māori-Crown relationship and integrate te reo and tikanga Māori in daily work.

Skills and Experience
  • A solid understanding of human resources, employment legislation, and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • A tertiary qualification in HR, a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams and with external stakeholders.

The salary range for this position is $79,656 - $100,639 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
