About the Role

The Employment Assessor/Advisor role is a vital part of providing career and employment readiness advice to clients. This position involves conducting personalised, client-focused assessments to create career and employment plans with recommendations and timelines.

A key responsibility is performing a full English language assessment that informs the plan and guides referral decisions. The Assessor/Advisor collaborates with the team, monitors client progress, updates plans, makes referrals, and advocates for clients when needed.

This role requires skill in second language teaching to adults and experience of assessing language competencies. Understanding of the English language requirements and skills required to study at a NZ tertiary institution is also desirable.

The ability to guide career planning, excellent IT skills in Microsoft Office Suite, awareness of NZ employers' priorities, and familiarity with employment sectors in the region are essential for success in this role.

Competence in intercultural communication and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds are highly valued. Qualifications required include tertiary education in a relevant field, an English language teaching or applied linguistics qualification, and membership of a professional organisation in a relevant field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out individual assessments of transferable work skills and personal attributes
  • Collect information on educational and employment backgrounds
  • Support with developing CVs
  • Conduct English language skills assessments
  • Develop a plan with the client including clear training/education pathways leading to employment
  • Network with training/education and service providers and employers in the region
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies and ensure effective linkages are made
