About Us

The Treasury - New Zealand is a government agency responsible for providing economic and financial advice to the government. We are looking for an experienced quantitative modelling expert to join our team and contribute to our work in Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Economic Policy Analyst - CGE Modelling Specialist to help establish and grow our in-house CGE modelling capability. The successful candidate will act as the lead modeller of a CGE work programme, with core responsibility for running the model alongside providing guidance and technical assistance to develop others' capability in CGE modelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run the CGE model and provide technical assistance to develop others' capability in CGE modelling
  • Mentor other staff in CGE modelling, including focused upskilling of new modellers and providing technical assistance and guidance to more junior staff
  • Contribute to how organisational capability is grown and leveraged more widely over time

Requirements

  • A graduate qualification or higher specialising in economics (or a relevant discipline that has included a focus in economics), modelling techniques or other quantitative discipline
  • A working understanding of general equilibrium theory and familiarity with CGE models (highly desirable)
  • Proficiency with programming or modelling language; preferably including GAMS (or ability to learn it quickly)
