Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

As the Energy Compliance Lead for our electricity transmission infrastructure, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with industry standards and fostering a culture of quality within the organization. This dynamic position involves owning critical business systems, managing key performance indicators, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and ensure the highest standards of compliance across the grid.

The Grid Compliance team ensures that as Grid Owner we meet statutory and regulatory requirements by implementing robust processes and systems to exchange asset capability information across our Grid Divisions, with System Operations, Customers, and Service Providers, in compliance with the Electricity Industry Participation Code (EIPC). They identify compliance risks and drive process and system improvements to mitigate and prevent further risks and breaches of the EIPC.

This role will see you managing investigations, conducting root cause analyses, and driving improvement programs. As the crucial link between the Grid Owner and System Operator, you will facilitate effective information flow to support the transmission network's growth and operation. You will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement and ensuring the highest standards of compliance across the grid.

To succeed in this role, you will require a relevant background in quality, compliance, and standards, with a sound understanding of the electricity industry's nature and design. Your comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory environment within the electricity industry will underpin your proven experience in internal compliance, investigating power system events or asset management issues, and reporting.

You will possess strong relationship management, influencing, and communication skills, with demonstrable leadership abilities and a track record of driving value outcomes in a complex, regulated environment. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify critical information and navigate ambiguity effectively, are essential. A Tertiary qualification in engineering, STEM, or an equivalent field is required.

A successful candidate will have experience in contract negotiation and management, knowledge of asset monitoring and rating, and experience in mentoring and coaching team members. Proven expertise in compliance management, particularly within the power, energy, or utility sectors, is also desirable.

We are seeking a collaborative and results-focused professional who enjoys a varied and full cross-business program of work, with numerous opportunities to learn. If you are keen to have meaningful work to balance with your life outside of work, we would love to hear from you.
