Your Role

In this position, you'll work closely with our Strategic and Spatial Planning Team. You'll contribute to regional and inter-regional initiatives, supporting district councils and maintaining alignment with national and regional growth strategies.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Lead and support policy programmes, projects, and project workstreams, including contract management.
  2. Undertake and lead policy analysis, policy advice, and policy process management.
  3. Strengthen internal and external relationships through advising, facilitating, engaging, and negotiating complex issues.
  4. Provide expert advice and support to the Executive Leadership Team, Councillors, and WRC staff.
  5. Foster and maintain internal and external relationships with stakeholders and partners, including mana whenua.

About You

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Experience working in local or central government environmental policy or planning.
  • A relevant degree/qualification in Policy, Planning, Law, Resource Management, Environmental Management, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong policy development, policy process, and policy analysis skills.
  • Past experience building relationships and resolving issues with internal and external stakeholders.
