About the Role

The Ombudsman's office seeks a highly skilled Public Law Specialist to provide expert legal advice and support across all areas of the ombudsman's jurisdiction and functions. As a member of the legal team, you will work closely with senior lawyers to deliver high-quality advice on complex matters.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have at least 2 years of post-admission experience as a lawyer, preferably in the public sector, with expertise in public, constitutional, and administrative law. You must be a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and eligible for a current practicing certificate. Strong research skills and the ability to manage internal and external relationships are essential.

About the Team

The Legal team is responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice and services to the ombudsman. The team works collaboratively to ensure that the ombudsman's core functions are carried out effectively, including handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations, and encouraging good administration.
