Job Overview

The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai is seeking a skilled professional to join our Regional Operations Group as a Community Ranger. This role will focus on the statutory elements of community work, including relationship maintenance and development with key stakeholders.

About the Role
  • This position involves processing permit applications for activities such as structures on conservation land, aircraft activity, commercial recreation, and works approvals for existing operators.
  • You will monitor commercial and private activity on Public Conservation Land and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • This role supports whānau, hapū, and iwi in their kaitiaki role for te taiao and works with community groups to scope work projects on conservation land.
  • As a Community Ranger, you will operate within a statutory framework, following processes and procedures to analyse and distribute information and find mutually beneficial solutions.
  • You will promote the value of local, regional, and national conservation initiatives and identify opportunities to achieve conservation outcomes while working with iwi, businesses, and the wider community.
