Key Responsibilities

As a Health and Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Inspecting food establishments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Addressing health complaints and ensuring adherence to local laws and regulations.
  • Performing inspections to maintain compliance with the Food Act 2014.
  • Working with stakeholders to raise public health awareness.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in our community by protecting public health and ensuring food safety. You will work as part of a supportive team in Whanganui to:

  • Identify health risks and recommend preventive actions.
  • Handle pollution-related issues.
  • Support the team by collecting drinking water samples in Whanganui.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A National Diploma in Environmental Health Science (or equivalent) or a willingness to gain the qualifications.
  • Good knowledge of the Health Act 1956.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • A valid Class 1 New Zealand driver's license.
