Job Overview

This high-level advisory role provides sound political advice to the Minister, enabling quality and timely decision-making. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of government protocols and processes, allowing them to effectively communicate policies and initiatives.

The role is based on site at Parliament, offering a unique opportunity to gain insight into the workings of the Executive Government. You will be responsible for providing advice on various matters, including portfolio-related issues, responding to Official Information Act requests, and contributing ideas for the programme of the House of Representatives.

To succeed in this position, you must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as attention to detail. A relevant tertiary qualification and/or previous experience working in a ministerial office or government department are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level advice to the Minister on policy matters
  • Communicate government policies and initiatives effectively
  • Support the Minister in responding to Official Information Act requests
  • Contribute ideas for the programme of the House of Representatives
  • Meet with advocacy groups and stakeholders to discuss portfolio-related issues
  • Assist the Minister's staff in progressing government legislation

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Awareness of te ao Māori environments and an understanding of building meaningful Maori Crown relationships under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or previous experience working in a ministerial office or government department
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
