Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

About the Role

This is a one-year fixed-term position as part of a structured fellowship program in gastroenterology at Dunedin Hospital/University of Otago. The fellow will work closely with consultants, registrars, and clinical nurse specialists to deliver high-quality patient care.

The role involves working in a tertiary-level hospital with a range of surgical specialties and offering subspecialty clinics in hepatology and IBD. This provides opportunities for research into various aspects of these disciplines. The hospital works in close collaboration with the University of Otago.

The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be solution-focused, and able to demonstrate effective decision-making and priority-setting in a clinical environment. They should also be enthusiastic about teaching and passing on their knowledge to junior staff and university students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with consultants, registrars, and clinical nurse specialists to ensure efficient and high-quality patient care.
  • Providing supervision to more junior medical staff within the unit, including education on clinical management and procedural techniques.
  • Pursuing research opportunities in hepatology and IBD, in collaboration with the University of Otago.

About You

You should be in your last 6 months of advanced training in gastroenterology and possess a strong desire to hone your specialist skills before becoming fully vocationally registered.
