About The Role This Fellowship – Gastroenterology position is a structured one year position.
We are looking to pilot a Gastroenterology Fellowship programme at Dunedin Hospital/University of Otago in the area of General Gastroenterology/Endoscopy/IBD.
The Fellow in this program will work closely with the Clinical Director, Consultant Physicians, Registrar, Clinical Nurse specialists, and Nurse Practitioner to ensure an efficient and high-quality service.
Fellows should be proficient in most of the skills and procedures outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors.
A work week includes 1:6 Gastroenterology on-call under supervision as needed, research, in- and outpatient specialist service, rural clinics, and endoscopy.
Supervision, both direct and indirect, will be provided by other SMOs including a consultant available for advice at all times when on call.
This is an excellent opportunity to hone specialist skills before becoming fully vocationally registered.
It is intended to aid the transition from registrar working under supervision to specialist providing supervision to junior staff.
Skills Dunedin Hospital is a tertiary level hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialties and can offer you a varied and challenging array of all aspects in Gastroenterology.
We have subspecialty clinics in hepatology and IBD which allows research into aspects of these disciplines.
We work in close collaboration with the University of Otago.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience to complement our team: A team player with exceptional interpersonal skills who builds effective relationships both within and external to their team.
Is solution focused and can demonstrate excellent decision making and priority setting in a clinical environment.
Enthusiasm for teaching and passing on their knowledge to junior members of staff and University students.
Supervision of more junior medical staff within the Unit – education of junior staff in clinical management and procedural techniques (where the Fellow is appropriately skilled).
About You You will need to be in your last 6 months of Gastroenterology advanced training.

Salary range This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement Fellow Scale $179,480.
