Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to serve as a Scholarship Liaison Officer, providing vital support to our Tokelau scholarship students in New Zealand.

This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the success of our students by offering guidance, advocacy, and care throughout their academic journey.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering positive relationships with students, educators, and institutions, promoting a supportive environment that enables our students to thrive.

The Scholarship Liaison Officer will be based in New Zealand and will work independently, collaborating closely with various stakeholders to deliver exceptional student services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with tertiary institutions and schools to ensure students are placed in relevant programs aligned with Tokelau's development priorities and students' interests.
  • Provide expert advice on course planning, degree, or program requirements, either in group situations or individual interviews, and offer ongoing support during registration, enrolments, career advice, and counselling.
  • Offer proactive pastoral care to scholarship recipients and undertake liaison visits to connect with students and their program leaders.
  • C coordinate and facilitate effective communications and working relationships between the students and learning support services within the institutions to guarantee students access the necessary resources.
  • Organize events such as orientations for new students and attend school careers evenings/expos where feasible for students in senior secondary schools.
  • Ensure students access essential services like accommodation, bank accounts, transport, health care, and shopping.
  • Assist with travel arrangements within New Zealand and accompany new students during their settlement period.
  • Liaise with key agencies to explore opportunities to enhance trade training pathways for Tokelau through apprenticeships.
  • Monitor students' academic performance and progress, managing any disciplinary issues, and provide regular performance and progress reports.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with liaison officers in different institutions.
Requirements
  • A university degree.
  • A valid New Zealand driver's license.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively with senior secondary students and young adults.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage small and large groups of diverse ages and backgrounds, using suitable audio-visual aids.
  • Competence in communicating with senior school managers and leaders in tertiary institutions and industry bodies.
  • Demonstrable career counselling experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of secondary education pathways, particularly Years 12-13, NCEA, and University Entrance requirements.
  • High-level writing, editing, and proofreading skills; computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand's tertiary education systems and NZQA policies and practices.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand's industry trade training pathways.
  • Familiarity with current issues in New Zealand's education sector.
  • Familiarity with Tokelau's national and educational strategic direction.
Special Requirements
  • This role involves extensive travel throughout New Zealand, including driving and flying, and requires a high level of physical fitness.
  • Must be available to work evenings during the week as required.
