Awanui Group is a leading provider of pathology services in the Wellington region, and we are seeking an experienced Microbiologist to join our team as Second In-charge. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Department to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the department.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Microbiology, with a good understanding of current medical diagnostic molecular platforms and techniques. They will be responsible for providing technical and scientific advice, training and education to other members of staff, as well as taking responsibility for the effective day-to-day running of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing technical and scientific guidance to staff members
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Supporting the HOD in managing staff, including performance monitoring and development
  • Ensuring the department maintains a high standard of quality and safety
Requirements
  • Registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of NZ, including a current annual practicing certificate
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Microbiology, with a good understanding of current medical diagnostic molecular platforms and techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • A high level of written skills, including the ability to undertake scientific investigations, troubleshooting, analysis, reporting and presenting
