About the Role

The District Chief Midwife is a senior leadership position within the Waitemata District Health Board. This role requires a strong, visible, professional, and clinical leader who can motivate and inspire midwifery and maternity colleagues and the wider health workforce.

As a key member of the local district leadership team, the District Chief Midwife is responsible for providing leadership, accountability, and management of health resources. They will champion patient experience and the Code of Consumer Expectations, empowering the midwifery and maternity workforce to deliver high-quality patient and whānau care.

This role models interprofessional working and leads the development of advanced and extended practice, supporting alternative service delivery models and taking a whole-of-system approach to alternative models of care.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic leadership to the midwifery and maternity workforce.
  2. Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  3. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to achieve excellent patient outcomes.
  4. Lead the development of policies and procedures that support safe and effective practice.
  5. Mentor and coach midwives to enhance their skills and knowledge.
About You

We are seeking an experienced senior midwife who has relevant leadership experience and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict, and positively influence others.

You will be a problem solver and system thinker who can effectively mitigate risks and issues. A commitment to ongoing personal, professional, and leadership development is essential.

Requirements:

  • Registered with the Midwifery Council in New Zealand with a current Midwifery APC.
  • At least 5 years of relevant clinical leadership experience.
  • Vulnerable Children's Act (VCA) children's worker cleared.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in quality improvement projects or initiatives that give effect to Te Tiriti principles and equity-based frameworks, and/or the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches.
