Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

About Us

At Statistics New Zealand, we're working towards a future where data drives positive change for Aotearoa. We welcome everyone who is passionate about contributing to meaningful outcomes and making a real difference in the lives of our communities.

Our Mission

We provide data and statistics to support informed decision-making across government, Māori and Iwi organisations, businesses, non-governmental organisations, and New Zealanders. Our goal is to improve lives today and for generations to come.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced People & Culture Advisor to join our People Partnering & Advice team. As a generalist advisor, you'll build effective relationships with our staff and leadership, delivering people initiatives through building leadership capability. You will work closely with the wider People & Culture team to support the design and implementation of people-related projects, initiatives, programmes, policies, systems, and processes.

This role would suit someone who can bring:

  • Experience in a People & Culture generalist/advisory role including dealing with ER issues and change.
  • Sound knowledge of NZ employment legislation and HR 'best practice'.
  • Strong communication skills that can foster strong working relationships and can be adapted to any audience.
  • A strong understanding of what good customer and service delivery looks like, including being proactive and undertaking a value-add approach.
  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner, including understanding the relevance within your role and uplifting your capability throughout your work.
  • A commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion within your work and across the organisation.

Your Responsibilities

You will be providing day-to-day support and advice across a range of people-related matters within your portfolio(s), enabling our manager-led approach. On any one day, you could be advising on a wide variety of people matters, including employment relations, change processes, performance management and development, remuneration, and supporting wellbeing initiatives.

What We Offer

We offer a dynamic and supportive work environment that encourages collaboration, growth, and learning. As a valued member of our team, you'll have opportunities to develop your skills and expertise, contribute to meaningful work, and enjoy a range of benefits including 3 extra annual leave days (taken during Christmas office closure).
