Taumata Arowai is the water services regulator for Aotearoa New Zealand.

It is a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Māori interests and knowledge by Te Puna, a statutory Māori Advisory Group.

We regulate drinking water suppliers on behalf of the public, protecting and promoting drinking water safety and related public health outcomes.

We also have an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks.

This 11-month fixed term position covers a period of parental leave until February 2026, offering an opportunity for inter-agency secondment.

You will be part of our finance team, supported by our CFO, Finance Business Partners and Finance Officer, delivering financial functions such as regular period end reporting, financial statements and payment runs.

You will contribute to our agency's financial response to accountability documents and manage the fixed asset register, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and policies.

Innovation and creativity are key drivers in our work. We are looking for someone who is an experienced (3+ years) qualified accountant (CA/CPA preferred) with sustained professional development.

The successful candidate will have the ability to adopt a strategic and long-term approach to their work, demonstrating an understanding of the public sector environment and collaborative skills.
