It is a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Maori interests and knowledge by Te Puna, a statutory Maori Advisory Group.
Our responsibilities are to protect and promote drinking water safety and related public health outcomes - we regulate drinking water suppliers on behalf of the public.
We also have an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks.If you're a passionate and driven individual who shares our vision for making water safe every day for everyone, then join us and be part of making a difference.We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Financial Accountant on an 11-month fixed term basis until February 2026 to cover a period of parental leave.
You will be supported by our CFO, Finance Business Partners and Finance Officer to collectively deliver the organisation's financial functions.
In this role you will:Lead a number of financial processes such as regular period end reporting (month-end, quarter-end and year-end).Play a key role in delivery of the financial statements and associated notes for key accountability documents, such as the Annual Report and Statement of Intent.Process payment run including reviewing invoices to be sent to budget holders.Contribute to the agency's financial response to Select Committee questions, OIAs and PQs.Manage the fixed asset register, including capitalisation of fixed assets in the FMIS and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and policies.Manage the Audit process, prepare and provide information for, and engage with the appointed auditors, for audit engagements.Manage and support 1 direct report - our Finance Officer.Support our Financial Business Partners to deliver high quality management accounting services.Innovation and creativity are key drivers in the way we work - our size requires us to be smart and agile.We are looking for someone who:is an experienced (3+ years) qualified accountant (CA/CPA preferred) with sustained professional development.can demonstrate an understanding of the public sector environment in which Taumata Arowai operates.has the ability to adopt a strategic and long-term approach to their work.As a small organisation, innovation and creativity are key drivers in the way we will work; we are collaborative, passionate and hardworking people, rewarded by the prospect of working in an organisation that's here to make a positive difference for all of Aotearoa.Me pehea te tuku tono | How to applyApplications must be submitted through our Talent Portal, click here to be redirected.You must have a legal right to work in New Zealand at the time of submitting your application.Note: You may be redirected to the employer's careers website.
