Youth Care Specialist
We are seeking empowering and passionate individuals to provide support for young people. Our team at Hillcrest Home is committed to providing a safe and therapeutic environment for rangatahi aged 14 to 17 years old who are involved in the NZ Youth Justice system.
Using a therapeutic approach underpinned by Matauranga Māori and cognitive behavioural therapy, we aim to provide the highest level of care for our young people. We believe that every tamariki and rangatahi deserves to feel safe, have their voices heard, and be surrounded by loving whānau.
We work collaboratively with our young people to help them achieve positive outcomes. As part of our team, you will be required to cover shifts and provide daily care and support. This includes assisting with re-engagement in education or vocational activities, attending appointments, and managing yourself within the home.
A key aspect of this role is building positive relationships with our young people. You will participate in activities, support their studies, and teach life skills such as cooking, art, music, and cultural programmes. Additionally, you will mentor them to make positive life choices and establish rapport with those who have experienced trauma.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team. A knowledge of Tikanga and Te Reo is an advantage, as Oranga Tamariki is committed to developing our staff's capability in these areas.
