About our group:Material Science Lab is part of the Research and Development facilities located in Shugart building to support all Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and some non-HDD material related selection, qualification, failure analysis, etc.
The functions of the lab include performing material, coating and adhesive level selection, testing and qualification for HDDs, and performing component proactive qualifications for HDD programs.
In addition, the lab is involved in advanced material development / selection.
The lab also has multiple cross-site &/or cross-functional collaborations on various projects and areas of work.About the role - you will:Research & Development of materials to support stringent cleanliness and functional requirements of drives.Study the impact of materials on HDD functionality, reliability and cleanliness.Proactively characterize & qualify HDD component & material cleanliness.Work on advanced development projects related to material formulation/change.Develops solutions to technical problems through the application of materials science and engineering principles, theories, and concepts.Provide advice in terms of material science, properties & applications, as well as the impact on HDD reliability.Technical advocate in critical engagements with partners and other industry stakeholdersInteract / Collaborate with engineers from different countries & different functional fields on projects.Tackle non-routine and highly challenging problems of varied scope.This is a career-focused, journey-level role that demands a high level of independence.About you:Have a passion for developing and characterizing new materialsEnjoy shaping the direction for cleaner/better materials used for HDD partsStrong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information to a diverse audienceAble to thrive in a fast-paced high pressure environment and able to juggle multiple prioritiesExcellent team player, problem solver, collaborator, and communicatorHas a strong analytical mind with meticulous personality.Has good interpersonal skills, must be able to work with cross-functional teamsAble to lead and complete projectsSelf-driven, independent & highly committedHas strong work ethicYour experience includes:Doctorate degree in Material Science / Material Engineering or related field.Has strong material science analytical / research background, and experience in material-related fields such as nanomaterials, metallurgy, composites, etc.You might also have:Experience or knowledge on how to operate Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS), Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrometer (FTIR), Raman and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) / Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis will be an advantage.Exposure to other relevant laboratory analytical equipment in areas of particle or organics analysis.
