When nature thrives, we all thrive.You will support the South Marlborough District and the Northern South Island regional community team in the delivery of statutory work (permissions, planning, land management) and community engagement.
You will work closely with iwi, local community groups and businesses.Depending on priorities, this role may involve:Deliver high-quality analysis and reporting on permissions for activities, including guiding, aircraft landings, sporting events, wildlife research, and marine mammal interactions, as well as Resource Management Act (RMA) applications and statutory land management issues.Engage with Treaty Partners on permissions and related matters.Provide support to the Kaikoura Marine Guardians in its operations and initiatives.Cultivate and manage relationships with local permit holders.Collaborate with local conservation groups to support their efforts.Assist in investigating and enforcing compliance against unauthorized activities on public conservation land.Plan and organize community conservation events, such as Conservation Week.Recruit, train, and manage volunteers.Work with colleagues and other agencies across district boundaries on statutory and collaborative projects.
Depending on your skills and experience, you may take on a lead role for one or more subject matters across the region.Please note, occasional weekend and evening work is required.We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member with excellent people skills and an understanding of regulatory processes to deliver on the Department's community work.If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:A tertiary qualification in an environmental management/planning discipline, or equivalent experience in working with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - ability to engage with organisations, community groups and private landowners effectively and positively.Ability to conduct statutory analysis and write accurate, clear, and concise reports.A 'can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach.Tech-savvy skills with the ability to learn new systems.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments using initiative and task prioritisation.A passion for conservation and connecting others with conservation.Full New Zealand Driver's Licence.Mo te tima | About the teamYou will form an integral part of our energetic and hardworking community team, working alongside other operations staff including the heritage and visitor and biodiversity teams.
