Auckland, New Zealand Auckland Council Full time

Our Regional Parks are much loved and treasured by the people of Auckland and visitors alike, receiving up to 6 million visits a year. They represent the iconic landscapes of the Auckland region and are home to many rare and threatened ecosystems and native species. For many of us, they are places that inspire and define us; places where we seek tranquillity and respite in nature, or more active recreation in the bush or on the beach.
We are on the hunt for a Ranger to join our Western Sector Parks Team on a fixed-term basis
He angitutanga: The opportunity
The Western Regional Parks team are looking for a full-time Park Ranger to join our crew on a fixed-term basis until August 2025. You will be responsible for enabling safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences while conserving and protecting natural and cultural heritage resources.
With a focus on recreational outcomes, you will be a part of a small team who work closely in the field to look after these highly valued landscapes. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and development of the network of tracks and park assets that allow for a range of user groups to connect with nature.
You will support visitor experience, concessionaires, events, and educational programmes that promote and protect the significant natural characteristics of the park(s) and develop relationships with Manu Whenua as a kaitiaki of this historical and culturally significant area.
You will assist with conservation efforts including animal and weed pest control programmes, re-vegetation, and provide support with protecting the natural and cultural heritage of the park by fostering relationships with local Iwi and volunteers.
He korero mou: About you
We are looking for a motivated, people-orientated person to join the Western Sector Rangers, who can add value and contribute to a committed team. You will need to be physically fit and have proven practical skills.
You will need to be self-motivated and a strong, confident communicator with a passion for working with community groups, families, and outdoor recreation activities. You will thrive on being able to plan and prioritise your own workday while still being an integral part of a tight-knit team.
You will be a team player with a "can-do attitude" and flexibility to tackle the diverse nature of the role and be able to adapt to unexpected priorities when they arise.
Experience in a ranger role or parks, recreation and/or conservation land management is highly desirable while practical skills and experience with tools and machinery is a must.
A recreation, parks and/or conservation land management qualification (or similar) would be an advantage, however, similar skills and experience will be considered along with other appropriate licences to support public safety and environmental protection.
Nga ahuatanga kei a matou: What we offer
While focusing on our customers, community and stakeholders, this role offers great job variety in a stunning and unique work environment.
You will work alongside and be supported by a dedicated team that celebrates strengths, supports personal learning & development, and encourages passion.
You will have the opportunity to make a difference in protecting these regional taonga for future generations and contribute to the ongoing development of these spaces to meet the recreational, conservational and intrinsic values for the people of Tamaki Makaurau.
You will be required to work throughout the Western Sector parks network from time to time.
The position is full-time and successful applicants will be required to work a roster that includes weekends, public holidays and on-call duty responsibilities.

This role is deemed safety sensitive and, in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.
