Blind Sport NZ is looking for an energetic and driven individual to take on the role of Community Engagement and Project Lead.The Community Engagement & Project Lead is a dynamic role focused on working with partners across the sport and education sector to co-design programs, projects, and sport initiatives.
The primary objectives of the role are to enhance the capability of partners, enabling greater opportunities for blind and low vision individuals to participate in quality sport experiences as well as fostering a more connected and inclusive community.As a key member of our team, you will:Empower and inspire people with visual impairments to participate in sports.Build strong connections with local communities and organizations.Lead and manage impactful projects that promote inclusivity and accessibility.The right candidate is passionate, hardworking, and self-directed.
While experience in the disability sport sector is beneficial, training and ongoing support will be provided.Reports to: General ManagerDirect reports: nilSalary range: $60,000 - $69,000 per annum (including Kiwisaver)Employment Type: Permanent full-time positionHours: 40 hours per weekGenerally, these hours will take place during standard office hours (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) although you may be required to work outside of those hours from time to time.This position offers flexibility to work both in the office and remotely from home.There may be some travel required for meetings and events with any travel costs covered/reimbursed.Key relationships:BSNZ membersBLENNZ incl Resource Teachers of Vision (RTVs)Blind Low Vision NZ regional sport representativesNational Sport and Disability Sport Organisations (NSOs, NDSOs)Regional Sport Organisations (e.g.

Parafeds)Key responsibilities:Relationship Management:Maintain collaborative relationships with partners and community groups.Act as the key contact for vision impaired individuals, parents/caregivers/whanau, teachers, RTVs, and other related enquiries.Program Development and Coordination:Assist partners in designing and implementing inclusive sport programs that cater to blind and low vision individuals.Work on community engagement projects, ensuring effective communication and support in alignment with organizational goals and standards.Capacity Building:Facilitate workshops, deliver training sessions, and other capability-building initiatives tailored to the needs of partners.Provide resources and guidance on best practices, inclusive coaching methods, and program accessibility.Advocacy and Awareness:Promote awareness of the importance of inclusive sports and the benefits of participation for blind and low vision individuals.Advocate for accessible opportunities for sport for blind and low vision individuals throughout New Zealand.Project Management:Manage or work with partners on specific projects, ensuring timely delivery and desired outcomes.Collaborate with partner teams to coordinate efforts and optimize resources.Community Engagement:Engage with community members to understand their needs and expectations.Advocate for inclusion and diversity within sports organisations and educational institutions.Participate in community events, workshops, and forums to build connections and support networks.Monitoring and Evaluation:Track and assess the impact of community engagement initiatives and partner-supported programs.Maintain records of partner interactions, project progress, and feedback to inform continuous improvement and strategic planning.Skills:Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.Passion for promoting inclusion, accessibility, and diversity.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently.Willingness to travel and adapt to flexible working hours.Enthusiastic and approachable.Strong organisational and time management skills.Knowledge of the New Zealand disability sport and wider sport sector.Knowledge of the New Zealand blind and low vision sector.Experience in the New Zealand sport or education sector, particularly in community engagement roles.Understanding of challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, especially in accessing sports and education opportunities.Proficiency in digital tools and creating accessible content including social media and website support.To Apply:Please send your resume and a cover letter outlining your experience and why you're passionate about this role and disability sports to ****** close: 5pm, Friday 24 January 2025.
