The JB Hi-Fi New Zealand business comprises 14 stores and a growing online and commercial business. There is a significant opportunity to grow and expand the JB Hi-Fi business in New Zealand and, over the next three years, we will be investing in improving the JB Hi-Fi New Zealand customer offer, refreshing the store network, opening new stores and upgrading our online platform.

**The Role**

The** Buyer **is responsible for leading the category by creating and driving a long-term vision for category growth, developing, and owning strategies to achieve desired sales outcomes, driving sales growth through commercially sound buying and promotion decisions, and building solid strategic partnership with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop the buying strategy and drive its delivery through assortment, pricing and promotions which maximise sales and profitability.
- Own the category, closely monitoring and managing performance to budget, in-stock position, supplier mix and category structure.
- Develop and execute effective visual merchandising and advertising plans aligned with value, price leadership, first to market, or disruptive strategies, as appropriate.
- Use knowledge of financial levers to make commercially sound buying decisions and proactively identify opportunities to negotiate deals which increase profitability.
- Develop and implement actionable contingencies to ensure delivery of each element of the plan.
- Undertake post-promotion analysis and reviews, ensuring advertising plans have delivered profitable sales growth and expected return on investment.
- Scan and monitor the market, and respond quickly and decisively to competitor activity.
- Own supplier relationships, building on high mutual accountability and integrity to secure priority on deals, launches, and supplier funding.
- Work collaboratively with marketing, VM, retail operations, finance and stores to ensure category goals are realised.
- Undertake regular store visits to understand customer trends and store needs.
- Provide strong leadership and clear direction to the category team, ensuring high levels of collaboration towards achieving sales outcomes.
- Deliver timely and accurate reporting, analytics, and forecasting to meet business needs.

Skills & Experience:

- Retail buying
- Advanced Excel and MS Office
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. finance, mathematics)
